Michael Braudy is a violinist experienced in Western, North Indian and Celtic music, who has taught music and meditation for over 30 years. He has collaborated with poets, storytellers and dancers, in theater and mime, and performs and offers workshops in the U.S. and abroad. Michael has performed at the Jaipur International Festival in Rajasthan, India and the American Center in Calcutta. He studied Western violin with Raphael Bronstein and Dorothy Delay and Indian music with Acharya Roop Verma, Pandit V.G. Jog, and Debaprasad & Sulaya Banerjee.

 


Emiliano Valerio studied Cuban percussion in Havana, Cuba, at La Escuela Nacional de Arte with Fermin Nani and Pancho Quinto and is currently a Tabla disciple of Pandit Samir Chatterjee. He founded Nueva Siembra, a 15-piece Latin band, and was musical director and percussionist/guitarist of the Broadway show Tap Dogs which toured the U.S., Europe and Asia. His first CD is titled Dream Time.

Concert with Michael on violin and Eric on tabla. They will play Indian ragas, solo Bach and Celtic airs, jigs, and reels, each piece complementing the other. A tabla solo will be accompanied by violin.

Eric Phinney is a percussionist who has performed with classical ensembles around the world, including with The Silk Road Project, Yo Yo Ma at the Smithsonian Institution, and the Ethos Percussion Group at Carnegie Hall and London's Wigmore Hall. He holds a Master's degree in classical percussion performance from Manhattan School of Music, and studied North Indian Tabla under Pandit Sharda Sahai of the Benares Gharana and Pandit Samir Chatterjee of the Farrukhabad Gharana. Eric is a member of Chhandayan, an Indian musical organization based in New Jersey and Calcutta.

Sound as a Meditative Tool

Experience how music and sound can be an aid to meditation. Utilizing Indian music and vocals and Western meditative vocalizations, we will reflect on how sound resonates within and around us.

You will take with you new ways to use music to produce states of peace, relaxation and awareness. All are welcome, no previous experience necessary.
